Looking Up Car Prices for Second Hand Cars

When searching for car prices for second hand cars, there are many good places to look. The very first thing you should do is check the NADA and Kelley Blue Book values for the vehicle you are looking at. NADA stands for the National Automobile Dealers Association and is a small gold book which lists values for used vehicles dating back to 1979. This book can be purchased at any bookstore, automotive store or borrowed from the library. The Kelley Blue Book is very similar to the NADA guide. It is also a small, pocket sized volume but its cover is blue. Because the prices are often higher many dealerships use this book instead of NADA.

Both of these guides have their own websites. At these websites you can look up not only the value of new and used cars but also find a great deal of resources about buying and selling pre-owned vehicles. Edmunds is another website where you can learn a lot about buying and selling cars. You can also look up prices at this website. When you visit Edmunds, you will find their site divided into sections. There is of course a section for new cars and a section for used cars.

When researching a used car on this site, you will be asked for the make and your zip code. As you may already be aware, your geographic location has a lot to do with the price you'll pay for a new or used car. You can also hook up to Auto Trader via the Edmunds site which can get you in touch with sellers offering the type of car you want. If you are looking to sell a car, finding out what others are charging for the same car in your local area can help you set a price that is reasonable and competitive.

Looking up prices for second hand cars is important to do before shopping because you certainly don't want to get ripped off. You should know the low, average and high values for the car you're looking at. These values will depend on condition. There is fair conditon, good condition, excellent condition and show quality condition. By understanding the price range of a vehicle based on its location and condition, you become a smarter shopper and thus are in the best position to get a good deal on a used automobile.
